You would be better off putting Win7 back on, to tell you the truth. There is hardly anything XP for it from HP

This download is a driver providing Microsoft® Windows® 8 support for Creative Sound Blaster® Live! This download contains the original drivers found on the Creative Sound Blaster® 5.1 VX. 24-bit XP and Windows Vista Pack 1.04.0077.
and it looks like it was designed for Windows 7, which means you are going to have a very hard time finding the correct drivers to support XP.
Actually, Windows 7 is pretty much the same as XP (user-wise) once you get used to the little ins and outs. There are a number of tweaks that can be done that make it a lot easier to use. One of the things I hated most about Vista and Windows 7 was the intrusiveness and constant nagging of UAC. I turned it off completely; I'm the only one that uses my PC, and I'm perfectly OK with it being off. If there was a direct upgrade route from XP to 7, I'd have it on my other PC, too.
Look at some of the Windows 7 web sites like sevenforums.com, and you can pick up invaluable tips on making 7 easier for you. I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but if the drivers aren't there to support XP, you'll be banging your head a lot trying to make it work correctly.
The best time to jump to 7 would be now before you have a bunch of programs installed. Most things that ran in XP will also run in 7, unless it's some REALLY old ones. I have two games I like that were written for Win95 that balk at running on XP, but run fine on my Win7 notebook. Go figure!
As another side note, stay away from sites like 'Driver (fill in the blank)' since you really don't know what you're getting, and can sometimes cause more harm than good. If you can't get the driver from the PC, motherboard, or chipset manufacturer, odds are they were not made for your operating system, and putting on some cobbled together piece of code is not the way to go. Of course, that's just my opinion; others have the right to disagree :-)
